European Commission: The Unfair Commercial Practices Directive

The Directive clarifies and simplifies the process of defining an unfair commercial practice. It provides both consumers and traders with a single European reference point, reassuring them of their rights and making it clear which commercial practices are – and are not – allowed.
Since it is essential that traders and consumers alike know what constitutes an unfair commercial practice, the brochure gives precise definitions, along with everyday examples. And for those who were not already aware of it, the “Black List” of commercial practices is introduced and its contents revealed.
